Our hospitals share a commitment to excellent care that spans decades. Through an investment in community benefit, the hospitals extend this same commitment to neighborhoods throughout the greater Sacramento region.
All six of our Sacramento area hospitals have a rich history within the communities they serve, well-known for their role in providing tertiary care, or their emerging presence in specialty care. They are dedicated to achieving medical excellence through constant assessment of the needs in their communities and an investment in people, capacity and innovative new treatments and technology.
Community benefit is very simply our mission in action - programs, services and support the hospitals provide to assist those less fortunate and to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve.
MercyClinic Norwood and MercyClinic Loaves & Fishes provide access to primary health care for nearly 24,000 underserved patients. These clinics play an important role as part of the region's safety net, and are operated in areas where disparities create significant barriers to care.
Other community benefit programs featured on this site, like CHAMP®, keep heart failure patients connected to the medical world, providing intervention that enables patients to manage their disease and live healthier, more productive lives. The Mercy Perinatal Recovery Network provides an intensive substance abuse and educational program that helps at-risk women who are pregnant overcome their addictions and deliver healthy babies. A variety of educational programs teach individuals and families to minimize the risks associated with diabetes, asthma and other chronic illnesses. The Growing Well With Mercy program fills an unmet need for local school districts by providing nutrition and health education to students in Kindergarten through sixth grade. Various partnership programs provide shelter, medical care, and social services for the growing number of homeless and indigent populations.
These types of programs are essential, now more than ever when the recession and continued reductions in public health services are impacting the lives of thousands. Our community benefit planning efforts are focused on the compelling need to improve how underserved populations in the region receive care. With many traditional care pathways no longer available, increasing access to care for those that need it most can only be accomplished through collaboration at the community level. Nonprofit health providers - large and small - must work together to leverage resources and maximize health assets in new and innovative ways to improve the health status of the underserved. Partnering with other community-based nonprofit health providers is our priority. |
