Kavian Shahi, MD, PhD  |  Medical Director, Neurosurgery
Dr. Shahi, the first MD-PhD graduate of the University of Southern California Medical School, is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. His areas of special interest include cerebrovascular disease, neuro oncology, and cervical spine disease.

Mercy neurosurgeons are supported by specialized nursing and clinical support staff, and the response capabilities of a nationally accredited Level II Trauma Center.

 
Alan Shatzel, DO  |  Medical Director, Neurology

Alan Shatzel, DO, a graduate of Des Moines University, College of Osteopathic Medicine, is board certified in neurology, sleep medicine, and holds subspecialty certification in clinical neurophysiology. He completed his internship in internal medicine at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He moved on to University of California, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento where he completed his residency in neurology, served as Chief Resident of Neurology, and was later invited to complete a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology with emphasis in sleep diagnostics and clinical sleep disorders.
 
In addition to serving as Medical Director of Neurology for Mercy Neurological Institute, Dr. Shatzel is also Chair of the Department of Medical Specialists for Mercy Medical Group, a service of Dignity Health Medical Foundation; Vice President for the Board of Directors for Mercy Medical Group; Chair of Neurology for Mercy General Hospital; Stroke Program Director for both Mercy General Hospital and Methodist Hospital of Sacramento; Lead Physician for the Mercy Telehealth Network Executive Steering Committee; and Executive Committee Member for the Mercy Foundation Board of Directors.
 
 
George Luh, MD  |  Medical Director, Interventional Neuroradiology

A 1992 graduate of the Loma Linda University School of Medicine, Dr. Luh completed his Radiology residency at the same university medical center in 1997. Later that year, he began a Neuroradiology fellowship with the Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Luh completed his fellowship in 1999 and currently holds board certifications in Diagnostic Radiology as well as Neuroradiology.
