Sacramento, CA, February 25, 2010 - Mayor Kevin Johnson today recognized a Mercy General Hospital volunteer for her 49 years of service during his annual State of the City address before the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor Johnson delivered his State of the City address this afternoon before hundreds of business and government leaders at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Sacramento.
Mayor Johnson spoke about his volunteerism initiative as a huge success during his first year in office. He introduced Raynia Kinniston as an outstanding volunteer. The 95-year-old Land Park resident takes light rail and the bus three times a week from her home to volunteer at Mercy General. "She's been volunteering at Mercy Hospital since 1960. She has donated more than 45,000 hours of service to the hospital," said Mayor Johnson. "That is equivalent to 22 years of fulltime work. Truly amazing."
Kinniston volunteers at the information desk and in the gift shop at the hospital. She turns 96 in June and says nothing will stop her from volunteering at Mercy General. "I'm going to continue to volunteer as long as I can, as long as I'm able."
